WAR DOG MEMORIAL DEDICATION
JP CASE MIDDLE SCHOOL, FLEMINGTON, NEW JERSEY, MAY 18, 2009 Dr. Evelyn Van Nuys (center), Veterans, students, faculty, and community all gathered to dedicate a memorial honoring the New Jersey Vietnam War Dog Handlers killed in action. The memorial is placed at the entrance of JP Case Middle School near the flag pole. Dr. Van Nuys has been the driving force behind the wonderful event for several years. Several Military Working Dog Teams attended.


OHIO VIETNAM VETERANS MEMORIAL AND GOLD STAR MOTHER STATUE
CLINTON, OHIO, MAY 17, 2009 – An estimated 6,000 people attended the dedication ceremony of the “Ohio Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and Gold Star Mothers Statue.” There are 3,094 Ohioans inscribed on the memorial wall and 13 of them were Vietnam War Dog Handlers. There were many speakers and John Burnam was invited to speak on behalf of the Vietnam War Dog Handlers killed in action. Please visit the memorial park website: Ohio Veteran's Memorial Park

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, MAY 2009 – The article, “Cold Nose, Brave Heart: Legendary American War Dogs” written by Linda McMaken and published in the May 2009 issue of the “Elks” magazine was absolutely superb. Ms. McMaken covered the history of these magnificent animals with accuracy, sensitivity, respect, and heroism. John Burnam contributed to the article providing pictures and story. THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF THE UNITED STATES
WASHINGTON D.C., FEBRUARY 10, 2009 – It was an evening to celebrate dogs! WAYNE PACELLE, President and CEO, The Humane Society of the United States, honored Congressman Walter Jones and Congressman Paul Hodes for their rescue of dogs from Iraq: Lex and Hero. The event also paid tribute to the Veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. There was a Photo Exhibition and Awards for Canine Companions of Members of Congress and Staff.
